Notes on Making This

May 2026

1. To begin

Why Dameter was made. Just a little of it, written down here.

2. A little tired of ordinary health apps

Most health apps out there tell you to try harder. You set a step goal, and when you miss it, you feel guilty. When you can't keep it up, you feel it's your own fault. Somewhere along the way, that structure had worn me down a little.

In truth, a day you didn't try should be worth as much as a day you did. The day you couldn't get out of bed, the day you looked at a screen too long, the day you did nothing at all. Maybe there could be a place that counted those as points gained rather than points lost. That was the thought.

3. Rebuilding your relationship with numbers

Dameter reads your Health figures in reverse. The fewer steps you take, the longer your Screen Time, the higher your score. This isn't about denying health. It's about rebuilding your relationship with numbers, once again.

Not driven by the numbers, but affirmed by them. I wanted to build that kind of everyday, together with someone.

4. About Namataro

Namataro is the only sloth of his kind in the world. He lived alone for a long time, in a small room up in a tree. Having someone open the app is his first connection to another being.

Not praising, not scolding, just quietly there beside you. That was the relationship I designed.

5. Going forward

Dameter is an app that has only just begun. From here, Namataro's world will widen, little by little.

Unhurried, unpushy, and for a long time. That's how I'd like to keep making it.

6. Lastly

Thank you for reading this far. Whether you use the app is up to you. It's fine if you don't.

But if a day comes when you open Dameter, Namataro is there, waiting.
